The 41st Annual Schooner Wharf Bar Wreckers Race Series launches another unforgettable sailing season in Key West with Race #1 on Sunday, January 26, 2026. Rooted in the island’s legendary 1800s wrecking heritage, this iconic Key West sailing race blends history, competition, and waterfront celebration into one of the most anticipated nautical traditions of the winter season.

A Historic Race Inspired by Key West’s Wrecking Era

The Wreckers Race Series reenacts the spirited races once sailed by Key West wreckers who competed to reach shipwrecks on nearby reefs. Today’s event preserves that adventurous spirit with a relaxed, “no protests” philosophy focused on camaraderie, seamanship, and pure sailing fun. From classic schooners to modern monohulls, vessels ranging from 16 feet to 120 feet fill the harbor in a colorful, wind-powered spectacle.

2026 Race #1 Schedule & Highlights

The weekend begins with the mandatory Captain’s Meeting on Saturday, January 25, 2026 at 7:00 PM, held in the Sail Loft at Schooner Wharf Bar. Captains review the 7-mile course to Sand Key, connect with fellow crews, and enjoy complimentary Pusser’s Rum punch and hors d’oeuvres.

Race Day follows on Sunday, January 26, 2026 at 1:00 PM, when sails fill the Key West skyline and competitors race offshore in one of the most photogenic starts of the season. Spectators gather around Mallory Square for a front-row view of the action.

The celebration continues Sunday evening with the Awards Ceremony & Party at 7:00 PM back at Schooner Wharf Bar. Guests enjoy a BBQ dinner, live music, official race footage, and prize presentations including trophies, Pusser’s Rum, bar tabs, and commemorative Wreckers Race t-shirts awarded across six racing classes.

How to Participate

Competitors may enter their own vessel in one of six divisions, including schooner, multihull, classic, and monohull classes. Registration details for the 2026 Wreckers Cup Race Series will be available at SchoonerWharf.com.

Sailors without a boat can reserve limited crew spots aboard Sebago Watersports’ 86-foot schooner Appledore II, an immersive racing experience that consistently sells out.
