Key West's Presidents' Day Weekend: A Truman Show With a Twist

This Presidents’ Day weekend, Key West is set to transform into a historical hub, thanks to the Key West Harry S. Truman Foundation and the Society of Presidential Descendants. They're rolling out the red carpet for the Presidential Families Weekend from Feb. 15-19 at the Harry S. Truman Little White House — Florida’s only presidential museum and Truman’s go-to spot for working vacations during his 1945-1953 presidency.

The main attraction? The Presidential Descendants Forum on Saturday, Feb. 17. Imagine this: descendants of six former U.S. presidents, chilling in Key West, spilling the tea on presidential life. We're talking Jimmy Carter's grandson, James; Truman's own grandson, Clifton Truman Daniel; and a lineup of other presidential kin, diving into political maneuvering and presidential influence. Dr. Kurt Graham, head honcho of Missouri’s Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, is playing the referee as moderator.

But wait, there’s more. Clifton Truman Daniel isn't just chatting about grandpa Harry; he's stepping into his shoes. Literally. He's starring in “Give ‘Em Hell, Harry!” — a one-man show about Truman himself. This isn’t your average presidential impersonation. Daniel's the first direct descendant to take on a presidential ancestor on stage. Catch him in action Sunday and Monday, Feb.18-19, at Truman's old stomping grounds.

Art lovers, listen up: Sunday's got something for you too. Artist Tom Corbin, the guy behind the Harry Truman bronze in Washington D.C.’s Capitol Rotunda, kicks off the Truman Foundation’s TRU-ly Amazing Art series at 10 a.m.

And it's not all history and art. The weekend’s packed with a “Happy Hour at Harry’s,” a Presidents’ Day cookout, and tours of the Little White House. Your ticket isn't just a pass to the past; it's a contribution to preserving this presidential gem.
