High-Heeled 'Drag Racers' to Star in Wacky Key West Competition April 16

Looking for something fun to do in Key West? Then check out the Conch Republic Drag Race on Saturday, April 16th. This wacky event features female impersonators sprinting down the street in high-heeled shoes, spoofing the atmosphere of a traditional auto race. The race is free to enter, and registration is open to anyone willing to don the required drag attire.

This event is part of the 40th annual Conch Republic Independence Celebration, a week-long festival that commemorates the Florida Keys' secession from the United States in 1982. Highlights of the celebration include a ceremony commemorating the secession, a lighthearted sea battle featuring tall ships, the "World's Longest Parade" that proceeds along Duval Street from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico, and a "Conch Crawl & Pup Stroll" benefiting the Florida Keys SPCA.
