Captain Eric Evans, at the helm of Fishy Business Charters in Key West, offers a unique and seasoned fishing experience. Growing up in Ohio with Lake Erie as his backyard, Captain Evans developed a deep passion for fishing and the outdoors. After moving to Key West and purchasing his first boat, he quickly immersed himself in the local fishing scene. His first offshore charter, marked by the thrilling encounter with a sailfish and a successful catch of blackfin tuna, solidified his path as a fishing captain.
Captain Evans’ journey in mastering the trade included learning from experienced locals and working as a deck mate, gaining invaluable insights into offshore fishing. This led to the establishment of Fishy Business Charters, starting with a 31-foot Yellowfin, and eventually expanding with two other boats – a flats boat and a backcountry boat, helmed by Captains Grif Helwig and Joe Alfonso, respectively.
Today, Captain Evans is not only an accomplished fishing guide but also a versatile angler. He has pushed his skills into fly fishing for pelagic fish, landing species like dolphin, tuna, bonefish, and barracuda on fly, and aspiring to catch sailfish or marlin using the same technique. His achievements include wins in various fishing tournaments and an upgrade to a Master 100 ton Captain License in 2014.
Beyond charter fishing, Captain Evans dedicates time to studying fish behavior underwater and making deliveries for boat owners, with experiences ranging from Key West to the Panama Canal and across the Gulf of Mexico.
