Key West Triathlon Finds a New Home
The renowned Key West Triathlon, a major event in the global sports calendar, will be moving to a new location for the upcoming two years. The shift is attributed to the ongoing construction at the traditional venue, the S. Roosevelt Avenue.
In a display of solidarity and support for the event, the College of the Florida Keys has stepped in as the temporary host. This shift promises to offer continuity for the event while the usual venue undergoes construction.
Date and Location
The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 10, 2023. It will be held at the College of the Florida Keys, located at 5901 College Rd, Key West, FL 33040.
Races for All Fitness Levels
The Key West Triathlon organizers have ensured that the event caters to all fitness levels by offering a variety of race distances:
- International Triathlon featuring an 800m swim (S), a 20-mile bike ride (B), and a 5-mile run (R).
- Long Sprint Triathlon consisting of a 400m swim, a 14-mile bike ride, and a 3.6-mile run.
- Short Sprint Triathlon, including a 200m swim, an 8-mile bike ride, and a 2-mile run.
- Duathlon combining a 1-mile run, a 14-mile bike ride, and a 3.6-mile run.
- Aquabike event incorporating a 400m swim and a 14-mile bike ride.
Recommended Arrival Time
To ensure a smooth running of the event, it's recommended that all participants arrive between 6:00-6:30 am and spectators by 7:00 am.
Early Packet Pickup
Participants can pick up their race packets a day prior to the event, on Saturday, December 9, between 10 am - 4 pm at the race site.
Race Day Schedule
On the race day, the schedule is as follows:
- 6:00-7:00 am: Late packet pickup and bike check-in.
- 7:30 am: Transition area closes.
- 7:30 am: Start of the International Triathlon.
- 7:45 am: Start of the Long Sprint Triathlon and Aquabike events.
- 8:00 am: Commencement of the Short Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon events.
As the athletes converge on the southernmost island of the United States for this event, the Key West Triathlon promises to be a thrilling break from the ordinary.
