Hemingway Days
When: July 19 - July 22, 2023
Where: Duval St, Key West, FL 33040
Hemingway Days is an annual festival held in Key West, Florida that celebrates the life and work of renowned author and Key West resident Ernest Hemingway. The festival was first organized in 1981 by a group of local residents, with highlights including a Hemingway look-alike contest and a short story competition coordinated by Hemingway's granddaughter Lorian. Over the years, the festival has grown in size and reputation, with internationally renowned writers participating in literary events and aspiring writers entering Lorian Hemingway's short story competition. The festival has faced challenges over the years, but has remained a fun-filled celebration of Hemingway's literary greatness and love for Key West.
Key West will see a multitude of bearded Hemingway lookalikes, and fans of Ernest Hemingway's writing and life, during Hemingway Days 2023, which runs from Wednesday to Saturday, July 19-22.
The festival's most popular event is the Hemingway Lookalike Contest at the Sloppy Joe Bar on Duval Street, which the writer frequented during his Key West residency in the 1930s.
The Hemingway Days schedule also features the Stock Island Marina Village Key West Marlin Tournament and the 5k Sunset Run/Walk and Paddleboard Race, both saluting Hemingway’s sporting lifestyle, and a lively daylong street fair on famed Duval Street.
