Del Brown Permit Tournament
When: July 16 - July 19, 2023
Where: 160 Sugarloaf Dr, Sugarloaf Key, FL 33042
The Del Brown Permit Tournament is an annual event held in Sugarloaf Key, FL during July 16 - 19, 2023. It is a fly fishing competition on the flats that pays tribute to Del Brown, an angling pioneer who caught and released more than 500 permit off the Keys during his lifetime. Participants include professional anglers and guides who are allowed to compete in the challenge. Del Brown tied a fly called the "Merkin" that was a representation of a crab and became famous for his permit fishing techniques. The tournament was established in 2001 and continues to honor the man who made permit fishing with a fly rod famous while contributing to the Bonefish Tarpon Trust annually to the Jon Ain Memorial Fund for continued permit research.
