The most iconic and anticipated spectacle of the Conch Republic Independence Celebration returns to the waters of the Key West Harbor. The Great Sea Battle reenacts the legendary 1982 “naval conflict” between the Conch Republic and the United States—only in true Key West fashion, with humor, pageantry, and plenty of water cannons.
Private boats, tall ships, and local vessels take to the harbor in a playful maritime showdown, engaging in a spirited battle filled with soaking splashes, cheering crowds, and full Conch Republic flair. Spectators line the waterfront along the Harbor Walk for prime viewing as the action unfolds just offshore.
This signature event captures the heart of the Conch Republic spirit—bold, rebellious, and unapologetically fun—making it one of the most photographed and talked-about moments of the entire celebration.
