Kelly McGillis Classic Flag Football Championship in Key West, Florida
The Kelly McGillis Classic International Women’s & Girls’ Flag Football Championship returns to Key West, Florida (33040) from January 20–26, 2026, marking its 34th annual celebration as one of the most established and respected events in women’s flag football. This internationally recognized championship welcomes more than 30 teams of women and girls from across the United States and around the world for a full week of elite competition, education, and community-driven experiences focused on advancing female athletics.
Named for acclaimed actress and former Key West resident Kelly McGillis, the Classic provides an inclusive competitive platform for girls ages 8 and up and women of all skill levels. The tournament follows the official 8-on-8 semi-contact flag football format, designed to support diverse body types and experience levels while delivering fast-paced, strategic gameplay where every athlete plays a meaningful role.
Tournament play features three major divisions: the Girls’ International Championship, the Women’s International Championship, and the marquee World Challenge Game, where international all-star teams face top competitors from the United States. Women’s teams are guaranteed a minimum of four games, while girls and junior divisions receive three guaranteed games, including playoffs. Athletes and officials also have access to flag football clinics and officiating certification programs, offering structured development opportunities led by experienced professionals.
Beyond competition, the Kelly McGillis Classic delivers a week-long celebration of empowerment, creativity, and global connection. Event highlights include the Women Speaker Series, featuring Kelly McGillis and influential past guests such as Diana Nyad and Judy Blume, as well as the iconic Parade of Nations on Duval Street, where teams proudly march with national flags. Participants can also take part in live theater performances directed by Kelly McGillis, creating a rare crossover between athletic and artistic expression. Nightly social events—from comedy showcases to interactive competitions—round out the experience with memorable moments off the field.
Championship trophies, plaques, medals, and the distinguished Porter Wilson Award recognize athletic excellence and lasting contributions to women’s flag football. With a packed itinerary that includes clinics, scrimmages, tournament play, awards ceremonies, and social gatherings, the event delivers consistent engagement and lasting impact throughout the week.
As a premier women’s flag football championship and international girls flag football tournament, the Kelly McGillis Classic continues to unite athletes from around the world in a shared celebration of strength, sportsmanship, and solidarity.
