El Meson de Pepe – Mallory Square Cuban Restaurant with Live Salsa & Gulf Views
For more than thirty years, El Meson de Pepe has honored Cuban culinary heritage at 410 Wall Street in Mallory Square, offering a vibrant dining experience surrounded by Key West’s iconic waterfront sunsets. Guided by Chef Pepe Diaz and his family’s traditions, this landmark restaurant draws guests into the lively spirit of Cuba with bold flavors, rhythmic music, and ocean breezes drifting in from the Gulf of Mexico.
The outdoor Patio Bar sets the tone with live salsa music and panoramic sunset moments that frame Key West’s legendary nightly celebration. Signature tapas lead the experience with inventive Cuban interpretations such as plantain-chip nachos layered with slow-cooked meats, flavorful conch fritters inspired by local waters, and green plantain cups filled with ropa vieja, roast pork, or picadillo. Each dish embraces authentic preparation techniques passed down through generations, showcasing bold spices, Creole influences, and fresh island ingredients.
Traditional entrees build on these vibrant flavors, highlighting slow-roasted mojo pork infused with citrus and cumin, shredded beef simmered with peppers and red wine for classic ropa vieja, and Vaca Frita seared to a crisp finish after marinating overnight in lime and garlic. Seafood diners enjoy standout creations like whole fried yellowtail seasoned with Key lime and garlic marinade, or a bountiful seafood Creole simmered in aromatic Cuban sauce.
Behind the bar, mixologists shake and muddle signature cocktails such as the famed Meson Mojito, recognized by many as one of the island’s best thanks to premium rums and freshly crushed mint. This Patio Bar serves as a central stop in Key West’s Sunset Celebration, offering refreshing tropical drinks paired with tapas and ocean views.
Open daily from 11am–10pm, El Meson de Pepe operates on a first-come, first-served basis and also hosts private festivities complete with customizable Cuban buffets. Generations of visitors continue to return to this lively Mallory Square destination, where Cuban cuisine, music, Gulf breezes, and sunset magic create a celebration every day.
