Explore Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum: Historic Tours and Key West Cats
Completed in 1851, the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum stands as a Spanish Colonial-style residence in Key West with a storied past. Hidden behind lush Caribbean foliage and private walls, the modest estate offers a rare glimpse into the life of literary icon Ernest Hemingway. Inside, visitors encounter preserved living spaces filled with historical photos and treasured artifacts. The famed writing room—where Hemingway is believed to have penned works including To Have and Have Not—and remnants of a former bridge lost to a hurricane add unique layers to the venue’s narrative.
Open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the museum provides guided Hemingway tours commencing at 9:30 a.m. every 15 minutes. Admission is set at $19 for adults and $7 for children aged 6-12, with free entry for children 5 and under at the main gate. The grounds are renowned for the Key West cats—descendants of Hemingway’s six-toed feline—roaming among gardens filled with local flora. An on-site shop also features memorabilia that celebrate the literary legacy and adventurous spirit of Ernest Hemingway.
